Project “Improvement of the cohesion of the Mediterranean territory through the configuration of the tourist-cultural Itinerary (UMAYYAD)”
Program ENPI CBC MED Cross-Border cooperation in the Mediterranean
Implementation period: 2013-2016
The project was framed within the Multilateral Cross-Border Cooperation Program “Mediterranean Basin”, run by the European Neighborhood Policy and its financing instrument (ENPI CBC MED) for the period 2007-2013.
El legado andalusí Andalusian Public Foundation led this project, which became the most ambitious and the one granted with the greatest economic amount among all those managed by the Foundation. UMAYYAD (term for designation of the project) contributed to the promotion of a sustainable Euro-Mediterranean tourism based on the synergies resulting from the sketch of a cross-border itinerary through seven countries sharing common history and culture. Among the objectives set by the project were the creation of a Mediterranean cultural tourism network, the transfer of good practices in cultural tourism and cross-sectional activities, not forgetting the application of an integrated strategy in the field of cultural tourism based in three dimensions: cultural heritage, diversification of the offer of tourist services and a tourist infrastructure contributing to the seasonal tourist balance.
