Project “BEST MED” Path

Program PANORAMED – INTERREG MED

Project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)

Implementation period: November 2019- June 2022

El legado andalusí Foundation leads the Europe-funded Best Med Project, which broadly aims to combat seasonality and tourist agglomeration in the usual places of tourist interest. Hence, the offer of cultural tourism of the Routes of El legado andalusi provides an excellent example, as it has pioneered this idea of the diversification of the tourist offer by introducing a tourism model that moved away from the usual circuits and traditional destinations. In addition, it tries to balance this offer with the traditional destination of the coastal area, with the subsequent advantages for the environment and the local economies.

Redirecting this offer towards the interior of Andalusia, to little-known towns, cities and places with relevant heritage and landscape, implies the promotion of new tourism management models, as seen in the growth experienced by rural tourism in the last ten years. Likewise, these areas also have a wide and appealing offer for the visitor, such as gastronomy, traditional arts, festivals, fairs, and other local events.

Similarly, what we intend is to make cooperation between the main political actors in the Mediterranean environment more real and effective, including citizen participation. The environmental approach that distinguishes the project brings along the implication of the Mediterranean countries to carry out an integrated and sustainable tourism planning able to relieve the environmental impact caused by overcrowding and seasonality.
