The exhibition has been organized by the Andalusian Public Foundation El legado andalusí and the Spanish Embassy in Amman, in collaboration with the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, under the patronage of H.R.H. Princess Wijdan Al-Hashemi.

This exhibition offers an engaging journey through the hammam, a space deeply rooted in the Arab-Islamic tradition, given its social as well as ritual significance.

In al-Andalus, hammams multiplied throughout its territory — a fact reflected in this exhibition, which now travels to the Hashemite Kingdom, where numerous examples also exist. Among them stands out Qusayr’ Amra, a true gem of Umayyad architectural and iconographic art, located in the Jordanian desert of Wadi Rum, about seventy kilometers east of Amman. Today, the site — declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site — enjoys an excellent state of preservation thanks to the restoration work jointly carried out by the Jordanian and Spanish governments in the 1970s.
