The exhibition will be open to visitors until 13 September at the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art in Jerez de la Frontera.
The Andalusian Public Foundation El legado andalusí opened yesterday the exhibition Architecture of al-Andalus: Spaces and Visions in Jerez de la Frontera, a cultural project that highlights the rich architectural heritage of al-Andalus and explores its enduring influence on the landscapes and built environment of Andalusia and the Iberian Peninsula.
The exhibition, featuring thirty-eight photographs, will remain open to the public for the next three months in the A-B-C Gallery of the “Álvaro Domecq” indoor riding arena at the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, which is co-organizing this travelling exhibition.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ms. María del Mar Sánchez, Secretary General for Historical and Documentary Heritage of the Regional Government of Andalusia; Ms. Tania Barcelona, Territorial Delegate for Tourism, Culture and Sport in Cádiz; Mr. Francisco Delgado, Delegate for Economy, Finance and Public Funding of the City Council of Jerez de la Frontera; Ms. María de la Concepción de Santa Ana Fernández, Managing Director of the Andalusian Public Foundation El legado andalusí; and Mr. Rafael Olvera, Director of the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art.
During her speech, Ms. María del Mar Sánchez, Secretary General for Historical and Documentary Heritage, highlighted the importance of institutional cooperation in promoting cultural outreach initiatives and underscored the significance of bringing this exhibition to Jerez de la Frontera. She described the place as “a city that preserves important traces of the Andalusi period and provides an outstanding setting in which to showcase the architectural and cultural richness of that historical era.”
For her part, the Managing Director of El legado andalusí stressed the importance of bringing knowledge of Andalusi heritage closer to the public and raising awareness of its contribution to Andalusia’s cultural identity. “This exhibition reflects the immense legacy of eight centuries of shared history between the Arab world and the Iberian Peninsula. Our aim is to promote and disseminate a heritage that remains deeply embedded in our architecture, our cities and many aspects of our daily lives,” she stated.
The Managing Director of El legado andalusí highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to promoting a greater understanding of Andalusi heritage and its enduring role in shaping Andalusia’s cultural identity. “This exhibition displays the extraordinary legacy of eight centuries of shared history between the Arab world and the Iberian Peninsula. Through this initiative, we seek to foster appreciation of a heritage that continues to be reflected in our architecture, urban landscapes and many elements of everyday life,” she remarked.
