More than 25 motorcyclists took part last Saturday, 12 September, in the Alpujarras Rider Route, a journey combining motor tourism, heritage and culture. The route ended in Ugíjar, where participants visited the Cultural Heritage Centre. The initiative was organized by the Andalusian Sports Motor Tourism Club, with the collaboration of El legado andalusí Andalusian Public Foundation, and gave participants the opportunity to discover some of the region’s most outstanding landscapes and heritage sites.
Along the route, the motorcyclists enjoyed such outstanding sites as the El Fuerte natural area in Juviles, as well as views of the Poqueira Ravine from Tajos del Ángel viewpoint in Capileira. The journey also included several cultural visits, including the Bérchules New Year’s Eve Museum and the Cultural Heritage Centre in Ugíjar, where the day’s activities came to an end.
The route highlighted the rich landscape and cultural heritage associated with the legacy of al-Andalus in the Alpujarras, from agriculture, gastronomy and local traditions to the region’s distinctive architecture. Participants had the opportunity to discover characteristic features of traditional architecture of the Alpujarra, such as thick stone walls, terraos (traditional flat-roofed houses) and tinaos (covered passageways), which form an integral part of the identity and traditional landscape of this Andalusian region.
