2026 Spanish Motorcycle Touring Cup
The Ibn al-Khatib Route of El legado andalusí brought together more than 40 motorcycle touring enthusiasts for a journey of nearly 400 kilometers between Murcia and Granada. Organized by the Andalusian Motorcycle Touring Club in collaboration with the Andalusian Public Foundation El legado andalusí, the event combined motorcycle touring with cultural heritage, offering guided visits to interpretation centers and museums in Murcia, Huéscar, Orce, Galera and Granada.
As part of the Foundation’s Cultural Routes programme, the activity featured 25 official checkpoint locations and highlighted some of the most significant historical sites in Andalusia. The Route of Ibn al-Khatib, that counts towards both the Spanish Motorcycle Touring Cup and the Andalusian Motorcycle Touring Trophy, took place on Saturday, 6 June, with the participation of more than 40 riders. Covering almost 400 kilometers between Murcia and the town of Pinos Genil, near Granada, the event combined scenic riding with visits to some of the most important cultural and historical landmarks along this emblematic Andalusian route.
Following the Footsteps of Ibn al-Khatib
The route retraces the journey of Ibn al-Khatib, the last great polymath of Muslim Spain. Through his writings describing his travels along the eastern frontier of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, Ibn al-Khatib left a remarkable account that today serves as the basis for this cultural itinerary leading to the gates of Granada.
The itinerary crossed several municipalities closely linked to the historical legacy of the route. Throughout the day, participants enjoyed organised visits to a number of leading interpretation centers and museums.
Among the highlights were the Medina Mursiya Interpretation Centre in Murcia, the Segureño Lamb Interpretation Centre in Huéscar, the Museum of the First Settlers of Orce and the Galera Museum, where participants also enjoyed a traditional refreshment break. The final visit took place at the Sierra Tramway Interpretation Centre in Pinos Genil.
Participants could collect stamps at 25 checkpoints distributed along the route, with a minimum of ten stamps required to complete and validate the challenge.
The Andalusian Public Foundation El legado andalusí, in collaboration with the municipalities participating in the itinerary, coordinated both the checkpoint network and the cultural visits organized for the participants. Following another successful round of the Spanish Motorcycle Touring Cup incorporating the Routes of El legado andalusí, the event continues to establish itself as one of the most distinctive fixtures on Spain’s motorcycle touring calendar. Carefully designed roads for touring are combined with routes rich in history, culture, heritage and natural landscapes, offering riders the opportunity to discover remarkable monuments while enjoying the gastronomy of the regions they pass through.
