The Blue Horizons Workshop: Innovative Water Solutions for Tourism and Climate-Resilient Regions brought together more than 70 participants, both on-site and online, at the Higher Technical School of Architecture in Granada, Spain. Organized by the El legado Andalusí Andalusian Public Foundation, the workshop focused on sharing practical strategies to address water scarcity in Mediterranean islands and coastal tourism areas.

The workshop also showcased European initiatives promoting sustainable water use in tourism, including certification schemes, efficiency grants, and multi-sectoral management plans. Policy frameworks, climate-resilient strategies, and best practices for non-conventional water resources were emphasized, underlining the importance of collaborative governance and knowledge exchange to overcome institutional, regulatory, and societal barriers.
The workshop also highlighted initiatives supported by European programs such as Interreg Euro-MED, Horizon 2020, and other transnational projects, which contribute to knowledge transfer and the development of integrated strategies for water resilience across the Mediterranean.
A range of European and Mediterranean institutions participated, including El legado andalusí Andalusian Public Foundation, the Higher Technical School of Architecture at the University of Granada, the National Technical University of Athens, the European Public Law Organisation (EPLO, Greece), the Small Islands Organisation (France), the University of La Laguna (Tenerife, Spain), the University of Rome Tor Vergata (Italy), the Energy and Water Agency (Malta), Turismo de Portugal, and the Municipality of Ponza (Italy). The Regional Ministry of Tourism and Andalucía Exterior (Andalusia, Spain) participated as an associated partner.
The workshop represents a significant step in transferring innovative water solutions to regions facing critical water scarcity. The Blue Horizons Catalogue serves as a strategic repository of adaptable, ready-to-use solutions, supporting sustainable water management, circular approaches, and climate-resilient development throughout the Mediterranean region.
